The bread crumbs bought in the super market should be your last option.
Mainly because they are a mediocre product which is often stale but also because they are many other products of much better quality.
My personal preference is fresh sliced bread. By grinding it in a food processor you can achieve a much better product than packaged bread crumbs. For even better results (crispy crust and intense color) I mix it with polenta (fine corn flour).
Your options don’t end here. Ingredients such as corn flakes, crisps, nuts, crackers, grated coconut, bulgur wheat can partly or entirely replace bread crumbs or bread. All the above can be further enhanced with various herbs and spices.
