It is a woody evergreen shrub, indigenous to the Mediterranean. It can grow to a height of ½ – 1 meter or more, if the soil is rich . It has linear, leathery leaves, green above and white flowers borne in spikes at the leaf axils. It has a terrific aroma often associated with grilled and roasted meats or fish.
