OKRA

A small, green or purple, edible pod with a fuzzy, ridged skin and tapered, oblong shape. Inside the pod are lots of small white seeds. Okra has a mild asparagus like flavor and, when cooked, develops a slippery quality that thickens any liquid in which is cooked. Okra is nicely paired with chicken in a traditional Greek stew.
