TRIFLE

A layered dessert of English origin. A trifle starts with sponge cake, ladyfingers or macaroons that are sprinkled with sherry, wine or brandy. Layers of fruit or fruit jam are pudding or custard are added. The trifle is topped with whipped cream and decorations of fruit, candied fruit or nuts.
