A hard-shelled, tomato-shaped tree fruit with bright red, leathery skin and hundreds of crunchy, red seeds embedded in white membranes. Pomegranates have a lightly sweet flavor and a deep red juice when the seeds are cut into. The seeds can be used as you would nuts to sprinkle over salads.
